Our Journey
The Association of Women in Coffee Kenya (AWICI) was born out of a shared vision to elevate the role of women in the coffee industry. In 2020, during the AFCA meeting in Mombasa, a group of passionate women came together, recognizing the need for a unified voice that would champion the interests and contributions of women across the coffee value chain. This meeting sparked the beginning of AWICI, a membership organization dedicated to empowering women at every stage of their coffee careers.
Who We Are
AWICI is more than just an organization; it’s a movement. Our members come from all corners of the coffee world—input suppliers, coffee producers, transporters, processors, marketers, baristas, researchers, and more. What unites us is our commitment to advancing the role of women in coffee, ensuring they have the resources, opportunities, and recognition they deserve. We operate under a constitution that all our members subscribe to, and we proudly represent Kenya as a chapter in formation under the International Alliance of Women in Coffee (IWCA).
What We Do.
Our strategic objectives guide everything we do. We focus on disseminating critical information and knowledge to our members, ensuring they have access to the latest market trends, best practices, and innovations in the coffee industry. We also work to improve market access and logistics, helping women in coffee connect with new opportunities both locally and internationally. Through advocacy, we strive to influence policies that support gender equality and empower women to take on leadership roles within the industry. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of sustainability and best practices, ensuring that our members can grow their businesses in ways that are socially, environmentally, and economically responsible.
